We can choose to not take things we hear seriously but we still hear it. We "Ignore" by not acknowledging or responding to the comment or discussion. If it's a discussion, we just continue with it involving the others, but not responding to the person causing the conflict. If the person isn't getting the satisfaction of stimulating a response, they will normally go find someone else to bother.

I don't use the "Ignore" feature available in many online forums. I don't see much point in putting someone on ignore, and then getting hearsay information from everyone else about what they said. That usually just starts another conversation about why you've ignored them and so on and so on and so on.......Get my point?

Every one's opinion has value even if only to themselves. "Hearing" is an ability for nearly all of us. "Listening" is not..... it's a quality. The "quality" of listening is knowing when/how to respond, or not.

There's a lot of interesting, jovial, serious, etc., dialogue going on in forums all over the Internet. Chasing people that you don't want to talk with, around the net, just to bring it back to another forum and beat up on it is unproductive, and in my opinion, somewhat of a subconscious reflection of yourself.

If you want to discuss something, discuss it. If you don't want to listen to what someone else says, don't respond to it. Calling them names in posts just fuels the fire. If you don't enjoy the discussion, find another.

Most online forums are moderated and you have the option of reporting posts that you feel violate their "Terms of Service".
A well moderated forum will rid themselves of these kinds of posters.
If they are allowed to stay....... they must be within their rights.

Visit the "Let's Talk About It!" forum.

Getting Going...or "not!"

Let's take this baby for a run!

That was the hope for yesterday. Well, as always, the best laid plans often run into implementation problems.

Really, I was all set to go, but decided to take "a day at the beach" in Canada. The passage across the border was incredibly smooth. In fact, the Customs Agent on the Canadian side had to repeat himself in a louder voice..."OK"........ Off we went.....

The day was beautiful, the water was "nice" and the food........wow!

As the sun started to set, it was decided..."time to go".

I've lived in the Western New York area nearly all my life. I knew that it's usually a little more time consuming on the way back to the US. As we approached Fort Erie, we were greeted by a reddish glow in front of us....."Tail Lights".

DD: "I wonder what's going on up there?"
Me: "Probably Bingo letting out."
DD: "That couldn't be the bridge traffic could it?"
Me: "I don't think so."

See....I don't know it all!

As we waited, steadfast, at the light (six times), the "Peace Bridge" faintly visible in the distance, I said,
"It doesn't look like it's moving".
This time........ I was right!

After a volley of "What should we do?", "I don't know?", the decision to drive, rather than sit was made, and we headed north towards Niagara Falls and the "Rainbow Bridge".

Americans that drive in Canada often hear from their passengers, "You shoulda' turned there".

"How do you know?"
"There was a sign."

It seems that in Canada, the signs are placed "at" the turning point, rather than before. I'm sure that after a while you'd get used to it, but then you most likely wouldn't need the signs anymore.

After a time, we found ourselves in Niagara Falls. Along the way we tuned in a local radio station to find that,

"Travelers are experiencing record waits at the border crossings with delays up to two and a half hours. It's reported that traffic at the "Rainbow Bridge" was the heaviest."

"I gotta pee", I said. "But I think I can make it".

Needless to say the day's relaxation faded.

As an afterthought, I think that some money should be allocated for "Johnny's" at the border crossings. At least then, if the bridges are delayed, and you don't have to "go", you can be entertained while watching hundreds of folks doing the "Pee Pee Dance".

Peace from Buffalo, NY
